Unique Beginnings
A recommendation was made by the American Red Cross to create the Hingham Visiting Nurse Association to provide home health care service to Hingham residents in 1920. In those early days, visiting nurses cared for entire families. In order to fill the need for basic clothing and household items, the Thrift Shop was opened in 1932. The mission of the Thrift Shop has been to offer reasonably priced goods to the community and to dedicate the proceeds from sales to the Hingham Visiting Nurses, now known as Partners Home Care (PHC).Today, the nurses continue to provide home health care services to those in need. The Thrift Shop, now known as the Unique Boutique (UB), proudly maintains the same purpose today as it did in 1932.

Perfectly Presented
Fashionable ladies' attire available at the UB includes classic suits, casual separates and elegant evening attire. The "gently worn" wardrobe articles for sale include pieces with designer labels, original tags and eclectic options for chic and polished style.

Regularly found among the donations are antiques, glassware, porcelain and dolls. Depression glass, fiesta ware, bone china and silver have been discovered by more than one discerning shopper. Household articles abound and are perfect to furnish a summer cottage, first apartment or college dormitory. Sundries such as toiletries, social stationery, greeting cards and holiday decorations are available. Paperback books are plentiful! UB bookshelves are a great place to find a perfect novel for the beach or a cozy evening home by the fire. The latest popular magazines such as Oprah, Town and Country, Vogue, Yankee and Gourmet may be purchased for a fraction of the newsstand cost.

Costume Box
Overflowing with an array of whimsical and period outfits and accessories, the Costume Box is a favorite destination for community theatre productions, school projects and the ever-amusing Costume Party or Masquerade Ball.

Extraordinary Extras
Gift Cards, Memorials, All Occasion
If you wish to support the work of the Unique Boutique and Partners Home Care's services in Hingham, you may do so by purchasing a gift certificate to present to the person of your choice. Kindly visit us at 40 North Street or call us for details.

Donations
The inventory found at the UB is assembled completely from donations of gently used goods given by community residents and businesses. If you are spring cleaning, moving to a new home or organizing an attic, and you discover usable and unusual relics, kindly consider the Unique Boutique as the recipient of these treasures.

Special People
Operated entirely by a group of volunteers, the Unique Boutique boasts a "staff" of approximately fifty people who donate their time and talent to the operation of this shop.

Community Involvement
The Unique Boutique is a member of the Hingham Business Association and participates regularly in town events. In addition to Partners Home Care, the UB also supports other non-profit organizations, including:

Rosie's Craft Cooperative, Boston, MA—The UB collects buttons and donates them to Rosie's to be used by women learning trades and work skills.

New Eyes For the Needy—Old eyeglasses and cases are given to the Weymouth Eye Service Center. They are used by ophthalmologists and optometrists who provide eye care to those unable to afford it in third world countries.

Paragon Park Carousel—The UB participates in the "Pennies for Ponies" program to keep this gem of Americana in our backyard.

Hingham Animal Clinic—Unsaleable but warm and cozy blankets and bedding are donated to this facility to provide comfortable quarters for "patients."

Wellspring—Children's items, books and supplies are given to these well deserving neighbors.

On the Road, On the Runway
The lovely ladies of the Unique Boutique take their show "On the Road" to present a wonderfully entertaining fashion show featuring clothing exclusively from the UB. This show commands a "sellout" audience whenever scheduled. Famous for "surprises" and humor, the ladies appear upon request at various organizations, meetings and clubs. For more information and fees or to plan a fashion show for your group, please call 781-741-8105.

Heartwarming Honors
The Unique Boutique Volunteers were recognized in 2005 by the Hingham Journal as nominees for Citizen of the Year for their outstanding dedication and selfless contributions to the community.
