Partners Home Care Earns Blue Ribbon from MassPRO

Kathleen Hernon, BSN, RN, Performance, Compliance, Quality Coordinator for Partners Home Care, is shown here with the agency's prize-winning storyboard, "Significant Statistical Improvement in the Status of Surgical Wounds Outcome." Hernon was also a guest speaker on the panel, "Quality is Everyone's Job" at the Home Health Quality Initiative conference, "Celebrating Success and Meeting the Challenges of the Future," held in June.

Partners Home Care recently received an Outstanding Achievement award for "achieving and maintaining statistically significant improvement in surgical wounds in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Home Health Quality Initiative." From August 2004 to March 2005, the national improvement rate for Surgical Wound care was 0.9% while PHC's improvement rate was 5.6%.

PHC also received a first place blue ribbon for its storyboard "Significant Statistical Improvement in the Status of Surgical Wounds Outcome" that showcased how those results were achieved. The agency received this special recognition by MassPRO at the Home Health Quality Initiative Conference "Celebrating Success and Meeting the Challenges of the Future," held on June 28.

"We are very proud of this achievement," said Judy Flynn, PHC's VP of Performance, Compliance, and Quality. "The blue ribbon underscores PHC's commitment to excellence and dedication to delivering the highest quality of home health care to our patients.

"Of the agencies that worked with MassPRO on the HHQI project, a majority were able to significantly improve their selected target outcome. All of the agencies that volunteered to participate in this project clearly showed their commitment to improving the quality of care delivered to their patients," said Helen M. Magliozzi, RN, BSN, Interim Project Leader.

Facilitated locally by MassPRO, the HHQI seeks to improve the quality of care provided to patients treated at home. Participant agencies are provided with technical assistance to develop and implement plans of action to achieve improvement, and supported to share information and learn from their peers through interactive email lists, web-based trainings, audio-conferences, and workshops.
