What You Need to Know About Lyme Disease: Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention

(WALTHAM, MA, April 17, 2009) With the increase of Lyme Disease and the approach of summer and outdoor activity, now is the time to learn about this hidden danger. Partners Home Care is sponsoring a free seminar "What You Need to Know About Lyme Disease: Symptoms, Treatment and Prevention" on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 10:30- 11:30 a.m. at the Wellesley Council on Aging, 219 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA, and again on Thursday, May 7, 2009, 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Fuller Village, 1372 Brush Hill, Milton, MA. The event is open to the general public.

Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection obtained from the bite of an infected tick. Individuals who are infected may (although not necessarily) exhibit a skin rash, swollen joints and flu-like symptoms, but many do not. Often, individuals do not realize that they are infected, because they did not get the rash, and the symptoms, such as fever, headache, joint swelling, stiff neck, chills, fatigue and muscle pain can be confused with other ailments.

Partners Home Care is presenting "What You Need to Know about Lyme Disease" to provide community outreach and education about this often misunderstood disease. The presentation will cover such topics as understanding the threat and symptoms of Lyme Disease, available treatments and care, and measures to take in order to protect yourself and your family. A question and answer session with a Partners Home Care Registered Nurse will follow the presentation, and light refreshments will be provided.
