On Saturday, October 30th, nearly 600 people participated in the Seventh Annual Halloween Hustle 5K Road Race and raised $30,000 for Partners Home Care's Pediatric and Maternal-Infant programs. Proceeds from the event, which was co-presented by the Heartbreak Hill Striders Running Club, will help defray the cost of providing home-based health care to new moms and pediatric patients, some of whom might not otherwise receive that care. The event was held on the grounds of AstraZeneca, a leading global pharmaceutical company, located on Winter Street in Waltham, Mass. Thanks to the Maternal-Infant and Pediatric programs of Partners Home Care, sick and disabled children throughout eastern Massachusetts will enjoy Halloween and "trick or treating" in the familiar surroundings of home. "Many of the children we care for are battling serious illnesses such as cancer, and chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma, while others are recovering from serious accidents," said Marcia Reissig, President of Partners Home Care. "We are very grateful for the support we receive through the Halloween Hustle. It helps make it possible for children to be cared for in the comfort of home, in the arms of those they love." The organization will provide 13,000 home care visits to more than 10,000 medically fragile patients and their families throughout the year. State Representative Peter J. Koutoujian of the Tenth Middlesex District of Massachusetts kicked-off the morning festivities and was joined by Waltham's Mayor, Jeanette McCarthy. First place male and female winners were Newton residents, Jay Slowick with time of 15:40, and Caroline Owen with a time of 18:42. Major sponsors of the 7th Annual Halloween Hustle included:AstraZeneca Our sponsors, runners, walkers and volunteers helped make this event a success, but more importantly, their support assisted PHC in fulfilling its goal of providing home health care to our youngest patients.
