Great Chefs Was a Great Success!More than 200 people helped to raise $43,000 at the 18th Annual Great Chefs Food & Wine Tasting held recently at the Boston Marriott Quincy to benefit Partners Home Care's Cardiac Telemonitoring program. Presented by Roche Bros. Supermarkets, in partnership with Bare Cove Wine Annex, Cedar Grove Gardens and The Patriot Ledger, the evening of fine wine and food tasting was hosted by Eileen Curran of CBS4 News, with a surprise visit by her co-anchor, Mike Hydeck. Proceeds from the event support the Telemonitoring program for cardiac patients of Partners Home Care. Telemonitoring connects the patient with his or her nurse through remote monitoring of the patient's vital signs: blood pressure, weight, pulse, oxygen levels. As an adjunct to home visits, the combination of vital sign monitoring and disease assessment allows clinicians to conduct complete "virtual visits" to patients at home. Amidst the delicious wine and food tastings generously provided by restaurants, bakeries, and wine wholesalers, Carolyn Thornton, a PHC patient from Milton, told the audience how valuable this technology was to her and her out-of-state children during her recovery from cardiac surgery. "Telemonitoring allows us to extend care beyond the traditional home care by increasing the attention and quality of care we can provide to patients in their homes. Patients like Carolyn love how easy the technology is to use, and how secure they feel having someone monitoring their care so closely," said Marcia Reissig, President & CEO, Partners Home Care. "We are extremely grateful to our generous sponsors who made this year's Great Chefs so successful, so that we can help more patients like Carolyn."
