The setting—elegant; the food—scrumptious; and the atmosphere—festive; but for supporters of Great Chefs 2004, the real purpose of the evening was to raise money to benefit Partners Home Care's cardiac services and programs. At the end of the evening, that goal was met with a record total of nearly $60,000 raised to help cardiac patients at home.

Hosted by the Sheraton Braintree Hotel, and sponsored by Roche Bros. Supermarkets, Critical Care Systems, Sullivan Tire, American Telecare, Hill Holliday and The Patriot Ledger, Great Chefs 2004 offered the sold-out crowd an opportunity to sample signature dishes from eighteen of the area's top restaurants, caterers and bakeries. Participating establishments included Bernard's, Blackfin Chophouse, The Borrowed Butler, Bridgeman's, Konditor Meister, LaStoria Italian Bar and Grill, Legal Seafoods, Montilio's Baking Company, Nona's Homemade Ice Cream, Olde Hitching Post Restaurant, Papa Razzi, The Red Parrot, Rock Bottom Restaurant, Saporito's Florence Club Cafe, The Sheraton Braintree Hotel, Veronica's Sweetcakes, and Z-Chef Innovative Catering. Wine was provided by Bare Cove Wine Annex and its distributors.

Also helping to make the event a success was the Hostess and Mistress of Ceremonies, CBS4's (WBZ-TV) Kim Carrigan, who ignited the crowd's generosity during the live auction and raffle drawing for a necklace and bracelet donated by David Yurman and Long's Jewelers. A silent auction with over 90 items, and music provided by the New Orleans Connection, also added to the evening's festivities.

Heart disease is the number one diagnosis for home health patients, and the event's Have a Heart Valentine's theme highlighted the need to raise funds for cardiac services and programs. "The technology available to patients at home is amazing," explained Kris Shorey, BSN, from PHC's Cardiac Specialty Team. "We provide care at home that at one time was only provided in a hospital setting. We even have some patients awaiting heart transplants who are being kept stable and at home thanks to the technology and care PHC provides."
